The Development Capital Team

The Development Capital team is a small, diverse and energetic team, with 8 members bringing different sector backgrounds, expertise and ways of thinking together. What connects us is a shared drive to create impact and to help turn promising ideas into financeable projects in complex international markets. We look for people who are entrepreneurial, curious, collaborative and pragmatic; people who take ownership, enjoy building relationships and are comfortable working in an environment that is still evolving. We do not work in isolation: our work is closely connected to the other teams within Invest International.

The Development Capital team provides financial support to Dutch scaleups for international expansion and undertakes and support project convening solutions for early-stage projects with the objective to make them financeable and/or to develop scalable innovative business models. The core sectors we operate in are Agri-Food, Climate & Energy, Healthcare, Sustainable Manufacturing and Water & Infra.

For the team, we are looking for a proactive, acquisition-oriented Business Developer who is energized by independently sourcing new deals in the Healthcare sector, developing them into high-quality transactions and by actively monitoring them once contracted.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of Invest International’s vision, mission, and values, and translate these into the Business Development strategy. Resilience and Dutch earning capacity are key components of this strategy.

• Identify, engage, and build relationships with Dutch companies and companies linked to the Netherlands to invest in early-stage, high-impact projects that contribute to sustainable development, strengthen resilience, support current and future earning capacity, and enhance the international competitiveness of the Netherlands.

• Build a broad pipeline and originate and close transactions within the core sectors. Actively participate in origination activities and take a leading role in structuring and executing investments, in collaboration with ESG colleagues, impact advisers, and other specialists where required.

• Work closely with the Business & Corporate and Government & Country teams at Invest International to facilitate the financing of projects in subsequent phases.

• Take an active role in pipeline development and knowledge sharing across Invest International.

• Identify and develop high-quality transactions through the selection of early-stage projects, engagement with suitable consortia, and advice on appropriate financial and transaction structures.

Develop these transactions through:

• Identifying, in collaboration with the Sector Lead, relevant project opportunities.

• Conducting thorough risk assessments, including financial, ESG, and client onboarding risks.

• Co-defending investment recommendations before the relevant approval bodies and leading deal structuring and documentation negotiations with clients.

• Taking overall responsibility for the quality, performance, and timely monitoring of the portfolio.

• At least 5-8 years of experience originating and executing financial transactions in international business and project development, supported by a relevant professional network.

• Strong business acumen combined with relevant technical and/or commercial expertise in the Healthcare sector and a solid understanding of the Dutch healthcare ecosystem and its stakeholders.

• Client-oriented with the ability to speak the language of entrepreneurs and engage effectively with stakeholders at CEO and CFO level.

• Ability to quickly understand new environments and adapt project development approaches and processes with a strong focus on delivering results.

• Excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English, written and verbal.

• Positive mindset and high energy level, combined with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. Curious, proactive, and commercially driven.

What we offer

• Salary scale 16: gross salary ranging from €5,443 to €6,804 per month, including holiday allowance and a 13th-month payment, based on a 40-hour workweek.
